Multi-spindle units

In furniture panel machining, situations are often encountered where a panel has Holes arranged along the X or Y axis. To process such axes on CNC Machines, special units can be used in which spindles are arranged in a row and can be loaded with identical drills. This makes it possible to drill several holes with a single movement of the Unit, which significantly saves process time, especially if many parts of this type occur.

In modern CNC machines equipped with Front-End CAM systems (Woodwop, bSolids, etc.), as a rule, it is sufficient to provide only the hole parameters in the input program. The Front-End system itself analyzes the hole coordinates and their parameters and, according to the available machine configuration, decides on its own when and how to use the units. Therefore, high-level Front-End systems do not require unit definition at the Woodwork for Inventor level.

However, there are also more primitive machines, which are most often controlled directly via G-code. Such machines do not have any internal logic for processing holes with units. For this reason, the Woodwork for Inventor CAM module takes over this function. When defining machines in the Woodwork for Inventor CAM module, units can be created and the tools loaded into those units can be defined. This unit information is used in the corresponding post-processors when generating the final control program for CNC machines.
