Use and management of components with model state

Prior to Autodesk Inventor 2022, nominal hardware was usually created as an invariant part (iPart) or invariant assembly (iAssembly). They perform their function well throughout the design process, but they have one major drawback: it is difficult to manage changes to them and to add new configurations. This is especially difficult when working with iAssembly components. It is mainly for this reason that the possibility of describing an indirect assembly in a part was developed in Woodwork for Inventor. Since Autodesk Inventor 2022, it has been possible to create configurable components using components of Model State type. These components are easier to manage, especially when creating different configurations. They have the advantage that each new configuration does not require a new member file as required by iComponents, but simply allows the same component in the assembly to take on a different configuration. This greatly simplifies the whole process of creating and maintaining a component.

Woodwork for Inventor has extended the Hardware Attach command. A dialog appears during the insertion of a component of Model State type, which allows you to select and change the configuration of the component.

The iMatch command has also been extended to transfer the configuration of one component to another.

To allow for convenient interchange of Model State configurations in the assembly, the context menu has been extended to allow access to and modification of the component configuration.

Several Model State components have been created for testing and can be found in the Woodwork for Inventor Standard Components database:
